Edward and I are sitting in the library going over our test and we are a little stuck. We want to know what exactly Expressive and Receptive Vocabulary is and what Abstract Language is. We can't really get ahold of what it is. I'm sure it's something easy, but we're not really for sure. I think our brains are tired from all of this studying!!!! =]

We also have a question about #13. Are we supposed to pick a skill that she is struggling with that is listed in the question to fix first, or should we be looking for something completely different?

Vocabulary = words
Therefore, a child's expressive vocabulary are those words which he knows and can use to communicate with others through speech/signing or writing.
A child's receptive vocabulary are the words he understands when he hears spoken/signed to him or reads and understands.
There will often be a delay or a difference between the spoken/signed and written expressive vocabulary in the early developmental stages.
By the same token there will be a difference in a child's ability to HEAR/SEE and understand what is spoken/signed to him and what they are able to see/read and understand in the early developmental stages.
Clear as mud?

ReplyDeleteSecondly the question is asking when students are struggling or demonstrating inappropriate behaviors what are the FIRST things educators should do.
There are at least three answers we have discussed explicity and specifically in class.
