Hi Guys
I enjoyed the Monday lesson. While some of you were trying to pronounce my countries name "Botswana" and most of you got it right. Anywhere Im still struggling with this phonemes cause english is my second language and the last time I recall doing them was 12 years ago while I was still at high school.

Hey classmates,

I know that we have to write 4 blog posts. Are the post four in one month or four in a week? im sure that she covered this in class but i probably wasnt listening to that important part. Please could someone clarify this for me.

I know in class that Mrs.White said that we have to write a blog 4 times, so does that mean that writing a comment on someone elses page doesn't count as one of the posts to get credit for? If someone could fill me in i would appreciate it. Thanks

Snow Week

Hey,

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their snow week and was careful from all of the falling trees and branches. I know that some people were out of power for the week and hope everyone stayed warm. I was thankful that I stayed in the dorm because we had electricity and power, it wasnt fun sitting in the dorm all week though not being able to go anywhere. Hope everyone is prepared to go back. Ill see everyone then!

My last post and a question

So this is the last post I have to do right now to get credit for all four posts this month. I promise in the future guys I will develop better blog posts, and not procrastinate until the last day to post all of them. So here is a question I am confused on, " Speech can be communication, but communication can not be speech". Is this statement correct ? I thought I heard Mrs. White say this in class, but I'm not sure. Will someone please explain this to me ?

SNOW !!

Hey SED 260,
I hope everyone has enjoyed the winter break we have had this week ! This ice and snow has been crazy. I live out of town and thought it would be a good idea to stay in a hotel, so I could get to school and back. However, I didn't anticipate the hotel loosing their power as well. This week has sucked. I ended up having to go stay in Lexington at the only hotel with vacancies...the Radisson. It turned out to be much more fun staying in Lexington than Richmond. At least in Lexington you can get a hotel with room service. Later guys

Question about blogging

Hey SED 260,

I have a question about posting blogs. I know we have to use this blog... but do we have to post 4 questions a month, or does a comment to another blog count as 1 of our four times ? I guess since I don't know I will go ahead and post some more questions. However, if someone could let me know I would be very thankful.

Confusion

Ok guys I am super confused about all this pragmatic stuff, I am going to need some help, I really hope that Mrs. White goes over it more on Monday, this stuff if hard!!!

SNOW

Can u believe that we have been out of school for a week, it feels like forever and a half, I have gotten more sleep this week than in my entire life!! LOL anyway I just wanted to make sure everyone was safe, and careful trees are still falling down!!! So please be careful and stay warm catch ya'll in class Monday!!

Morphemes

Sometimes it is difficult for me to determine how many morphemes a word has. Basically, if part of the word can stand as its own word, then that part is a morpheme, but if the rest of the word cannot stand on its own, then there is only one morpheme in the word. Is this right? Also, if there are two morphemes in a word, the morphemes do not have to be related to the word that they create together. Such as "window." If anyone wants to correct this or add to it feel free, I am easily confused by morphemes.

Pragmatics

Pragmatics using language or communicating your thoughts to get what you to accomplish. This is making sure that the words are in the correct order and that the person understands what you want.

Semantics

Semantics is the meaning of words. Whether or weather.

Syntax

Syntax is the rule of words. Such as noun, verb, etc.

Morphemes

Morphemes are what each word means. Whether they can be broken down if they are compound words that are related or if just the single word itself.

Phonemes

Phonemes are ths sounds each letter makes like the letter p makes the "puh" sound.

Speech, Language, and Communication

Mrs. White has asked me to post several sections about what we have been trying to learn. Speech is the sound.
Language communicates a shared code.
Communication is exchanging information.
She would like us to communicate information about these.

You will still be expected to submit FOUR posts to the blog for JANUARY. I realize it may be difficult if you waited until the LAST WEEK of the month to do this and then an ice storm hit.
