Pragmatics using language or communicating your thoughts to get what you to accomplish. This is making sure that the words are in the correct order and that the person understands what you want.

  1. You are correct - it is communicating your thoughts to get what you want to accomplish. It is NOT making sure the words are in the right order. WORD ORDER is more about structure which is syntax.

How you communicate to your mother is different than how you communicate to your doctor. Consider how you communicate with your peers. How is this different than how you communicate with the your employer?

Do you change the vocabulary you use? What about the topics of converation?

What is different in your conversations with these people?

    Why?

  2. I use slang terms when talking to my mother, daughter, and friends. When I talk to bosses or professionals I have to think about what I say before speaking so that everything I want to say comes out correctly.
We speak differently to get along with others and to get our point across.

  6. I had an Oral Communications teacher in High School that would fail a student if they used slang tetrms in her class. She said if we would not say it to a judge she did not want to hear it in her class.
