Well, we have not been to class for two weeks and I'm not sure if I understand everything I have read. Speech is the sound. Language communicates a shared code. Communication is exchanging information. Is this correct?
Phonemes are ths sounds each letter makes like the letter p makes the "puh" sound. Correct?
Morphemes are what each word means. Whether they can be broken down if they are compound words that are related or if just the single word itself. Correct?
Syntax is the rule of words. Such as noun, verb, etc. Correct?
Semantics is the meaning of words. Whether or weather. Correct?
Pragmatics using language or communicating your thoughts to get what you to accomplish. Correct?
Are these correct? I hope I am understanding.

Jennifer, you are off to a GREAT start!!! You have done an excellent job of summarizing the MAIN IDEAS of what we are discussing.
ReplyDeleteI would encourage you to take each one of these concepts and create a different post. This will allow us to focus the discussion on ONE topic per post. It will allow people the opportunity to pick and choose the ideas where they understand and want to help others or where they have questions and want to seek more information.
