Prayer

Monday night I had to leave class early because my mother had to have an emergency surgery. If you would please keep my family in your prayers I would greatly appreciate it. Mom is doing okay but she runs a school at my church and the school is really lost without her.

Also I had to leave right before we started with the books. So if anyone could tell me a little about that would be great!

Thanks!

The Field Trip

I assume we are still going on the field trip to the Bluegrass Technology Center after Spring Break, right? I missed class on Monday and I'm a little lost. Are we supposed to meet at 6:00 in Lexington? Also, where is this place? I'll probably have to mapquest it. I was also wondering if anyone could cue me in on anything else important that I might have missed. Thanks for any help!

Spring Break?

Where is everyone going, and if you're traveling i will say a little prayer for safe travel.

Article response Question

I am currently working on the double notes part of the article response. I am very confused on what needs to be put into the notes under "diagrams/images" section. If someone could let me know I would really appreciate it!

King Burger video

I'm not sure when the "King Burger" video was added, but it was hilarious to watch. It had actually circulated around our office at work, and everyone got a big kick out of it. It definitely shows a different type of language. The sad part about it is that a lot of people talk like this in their everyday speech.

I just thought I would share that...if anyone hasn't watched the video, I would suggest checking it out.

another accident :(

So, as I was leaving class tonight, I twisted my ankle and fell. Actually it happened as I was stepping off the curb to get into my car. I twisted my right ankle which is also the same ankle that I hurt badly in September when I wrecked a moped. Just when I think everything is going good...BOOM...down I go again! In September I was on crutches for over 3 weeks so I've had my fair share of dealing with this. But I just don't want anything like that to happen. I would love to wake up in the morning and be able to walk just fine and not be in pain. I have a funny feeling that's not gonna happen though...LOL. It's been over 3 hours since I fell and the pain isn't ceasing. If you all will, please pray for me. I would prefer not to go to the ER for an xray, but the clinic may send me there in a flash...they did twice in September. I want to feel better now and stop this trend of causing my ankles such pain. :(

"What SHE Wants"

I'm going to pick on Amanda. . . because I know I can AND . . . I've heard many students say, "What do YOU want on the test or paper or project."

I know one of the biggest challenges you face as students is "figuring out" the different expectations for all of your classes. Each professor/instructor has different ways of grading or evaluating work. I'm sure we each have different expectations as well.

For this course it is important that you understand that I try very hard to not make it about "what I want." It is about you demonstrating your understanding of the course material and know how it can apply it in a real world setting.

My goal is to establish clear instructional expectations that are based in the course content. The way to answer questions and complete assignments is to look at the question or the directions, determine what it is they are question asking and then specifically do what they are asking you to do (not what you THINK it is asking, now how YOU would think is an acceptable way to do it).

There is always a rubric or scoring guide with the assignments. These are designed to assist you in knowing what "good work" looks like. What is proficiency? Use the rubrics, look for documents and feedback from other assignments to help you determine this.

It's not about if I LIKE your work. It's about does your work demonstrate a deep understanding of the material in such a way that you can apply your knowledge and skills. I simply want you to LEARN...show me you are LEARNING the content, making connections and that you have an accurate UNDERSTANDING of the material and you will continually earn the scores that you are seeking to receive.

thank you

Thank you everyone for being there for me during my melt down!!!!!! You guys are all awesome, things turned out and I am back on track!!! Lots of love to everyone :)

Article Response

I worked super hard on this article reponse, you can ask my room-mate, if she she doesn't like it I think I might actually cry lol I just kidding but I worked really hard, and I really hope it is what she is looking for!

Grammar

Grammar is a huge problem for me. I have always been behind in it. I took all Honors and AP classes in high school English and still am lost in grammar. If anyone knows of a good book or web page that could help me reteach myself, please let me know.

Thanks!

Reading Response

Please submit your Reading Responses ELECTRONICALLY. I will accept them in hard copy. But, I do prefer they are submitted via Blackboard. It makes it much easier for me for grading purposes.

These are due at 6:00 on the night of your class. I know some of the Wednesday night students are planning on attending Monday night's class this week due to the President's Ball or other factors. If you're typical night to attend is Wednesday then your response isn't due until Wednesday at 6.

I will have these graded and included in your Mid-term grades!! (Did I just say that?) So, thanks for those who have turned theirs in early. Yes! Someone has already submitted theirs.

questions and concerns

Looking forward to meeting on Sunday so that I can firm up questions I have on the project. I feel like I need alittle more direction with it. See you at 6. Again thanks for helping us out with what we missed not being at Wed. class. P.S. concerns are test score and length project should be.

countdown to post time!

I thought I had until midnight tonight to post, I maybe wrong. I tend to wait until the last minute because I never know what to say, I'm even worse when it comes to text messages....my son who is a junior at UK and says I need to abbreviate my words...he says he doesn't have time to read a book! Oh well, I'm old...and I am trying, that should count for something, right!

Thank you Mrs. White

I promise to improve and practice my computer skills everyday! Thanks for the reset!
I guess while being struck with this nasty virus I developed password memory loss! I must write these things down in the future.

Posts due Friday??

So I saw that Ms.White said the posts should be done by Friday 27.... Is this true? I was thinking we had through Feb to finish February's blogs. Ms. White, or Fellow classmates... Did You (she) just get the date wrong? : ) ok, thats it! Thanks!

Language Project Meeting - SUNDAY at 6:00

I have heard from a few students in email and a few here on the blog that they are interested in getting together on Sunday. Some are in Lexington. Some are in Richmond. Some are from neither place.

I am suggesting we ALL meet about 6:00 (am still flexible on this if you want to suggest a different time). We will discuss the project together. Then if individuals want to talk to me about their project separately people can stay after.

The question is . . . do you want to meet in Lexington at Calistogas in Hamburg (it has free wireless) or do you prefer to meet in Richmond? If you want to meet in Richmond just suggest a place that has wireless. I'm "classroomed" out so pick a place where I can sit down, be comfortable and order a coffee.

I think there will be at least 5 or 6 of us - maybe more.

Hey Mrs. White,
I was just wondering when you are planning on grading the rest of the tests. I know it's basically my own fault that i didnt turn it in till monday but i am getting really anxious. I have been checking everyday a few times a day since monday! I'm not trying to rush you cause id rather you take your time !

Lang. Assessment for the D/HH

I was curious about language assessment for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. When we talked about the language sample and we all discussed about kids who could hear and talk. But what about children who are profoundly deaf and do not have speech? How do you assess their language? I know ASL has its own grammar and syntax from English so I was just curious if anyone knew or had any thoughts. And I know that there is some language delay depending on the decibal loss of each child.
