A little about me!
Hi Everyone! My name is Katlyn Chappel. I go by Katlyn at school because there are usually a lot of people with the name Katie and Kate, but, my friends call me Katie. I graduated from Montgomery County High School last spring. I have been signing since I was in the 5th grade and it is my passion. My major is difficult to understand because for what I want to do there is not a specific major. So I am majoring in Special Education for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing with a emphasis in chemistry and also majoring in ASL. After college I want to teach ASL as a foreign language in high schools or teach chemistry at a School for the Deaf. Maybe both who knows! I am very excited for this class. I think that we will definitely learn a lot!

HI I am Lauren, and I had a question about ASL. Have you taken ASL 101? Because I am very interested in learning sign language but am hesitant to take that class. I have heard many bad things about and was wondering if you could give me a little input.

ReplyDeleteHi Lauren, I took ASL 101 last semester and I am taking 102 right now. I love everything about the class and the ASL staff! The only way you could have a bad experience in ASL is if you don't ask questions and don't participate. You will never learn ASL if you just sit in class. So my thoughts on the subject are that you should definitely try at least one class, especially since you are interested. I have found though that you will learn a lot more if you are under a Deaf professor. I suggest you try James Womack or David R Williams. If you want to talk more feel free to talk to me in class (I'm in the monday night class), email me, or find me on facebook.
