Hey Guys,
I was just curious as to what everyone else is considering doing for the activity during their language sample. I want to try and get something as natural as possible. Any suggestions??

a stammering kid can be good for the exercise. I want to try one.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you going to plan to DO while you are playing with the child, Edward? Or, will you videotape him interacting with his family? What will the stammering kid be DOING so you can record his language?
ReplyDeleteMaybe have them tell you about their favorite holiday or about what they did during the ice storm. I do that with the five year old I babysit often. Something to get kids talking, that's how I would approach it! Or just observe them at home communicating with their family, that's about as natural as you can get.
ReplyDeleteI am planning on recording my cousins two boys. They are three and four, I think i'm going to record them playing and just let them talk to each other for my language sample.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about video taping my neighbors playing with my younger brother. My brother and the child I am going to be taping are the same age. The child I am video taping has a strong speech problem.
ReplyDeleteI am having my little cousin over for a "slumber party" saturday. I figured that this would be a good time to get a natural language sample. I am just going to record for a few hours of the day and record the normal conversations that we have.. typically about coloring books and colors, painting our nails, doing our make up, why this is like this.. yadda yadda yadda...
ReplyDeleteWow . . . I am jealous! These sound like FUN TIMES. I think I want to come play with all of you - at least come get my nails and make up done!!!
ReplyDeleteI have two twin 5 year old cousins that I babysit all the time and I am thinking about video taping them when we all play together. It would be very natural for them to talk to each other and it would be interesting to see the differences in their speech levels since it is plain to the ear that one struggles more with her speech than the other. It is always a good laugh when I babysit them and they can talk your ear off so I figured it could provide me with a good language sample.
ReplyDeleteI have a nephew who is alomst two and I plan to just videotape him with his mother during the day. My nephew enjoys talking while he is playing so I figure if I can catch him throughout the day during play time he will give good recording for the language sample.
ReplyDeleteI have a 3 year old cousin that I plan to video tape playing with his mom and little sister! He is really entertaining so I am looking forward to doing it!
ReplyDeleteI think im might color easter eggs or tape our conversation while we are driving home from school.
ReplyDeleteI am going to video tape my 3 year old cusin and her two twin 8 year old sisters interacting within their play room while they play with their Barbies. I do also like the idea of having a girls night and playing dress up with the girls. Mrs. White also said that playing a game could be a good idea or just place a video (without the childs knowledge) in an area where you know that converstations will occure.
ReplyDeleteI plan to video tape 3 year old twin boys! The conversations they have are priceless!
ReplyDeleteI am going to video tape my friend's niece and nephew, one is three and the other is one. I'm going to observe them playing and talking to my friend and her sister. She always talks about his latest sayings and it should be fun and interesting!
