Mrs.White

you said you went to a Bible College, how was that?

  1. I commuted the first 2 1/2 years. I lived like the devil and just went to class and it was horrible. One day after James class I thought about the lives of some the people I was hanging out with and then the kids in my classes and my professors. I thought where do I want to be in 5, 10 or 20 years. Then I thought - what do I want to be like TOMORROW!!! I got my act together, moved on campus and LOVED it.

I eventually became an RA, was a student receptionist part time and even worked in "college relations" at the time and did some recruiting for the school. It was some of the best times of my life.

It was men like a Sherwood Smith or R.J. Kidwell, David Roadcup, Steve Hooks, Dana Eynon, Ron Davis or a Paul Friskney - professors and people on staff who taught me what the LOVE of God is and how to see Him in the pages of the Bible - how to see a relationship with my Savior, not to "do church" or "be busy with spiritual things." It's not about RELIGION for me. It's about living authentically - letting people see the bad and the ugly sides of Cathy White - to know God's grace is sufficient. That's how Bible College was for me.

I would not be the teacher I am today if it were not for those teachers there who taught me. . . it's not what I DO. . . it's WHOSE I AM.

  2. I'm thinking about attending one next year, and playing basketball at the college. But its a hard decision for me, because I want to go and grow more in my faith, but they don't have special education at the two I'm looking at but they do have elementary education which I would love to do also.. So i was just going to see what you thought..

  3. I would encourage you to really pray about it and see where God opens and closes doors. I believe He can use you effectively in BOTH places. If you have a heart for special education it may be that you should stay and get your degree at EKU. You may be exactly where God wants you, finding opportunities here to grow in your faith through campus ministries, local churches, etc.

OR - transfer, get your regular ed degree and become a PHENOMENAL regular ed person with whom special education teachers can collaborate.

Because there is a shortage of special education teachers if you transfer and get a regular ed undergrad degree you might be able to pursue a MASTERS in special education and certification via a grant - one that you might not even have to pay back!!!

PRAY and PURSUE where you feel He can use you most and grow you most.

I once prayed fervently words originally penned by C.S. Lewis, "God, what is it that you could do perfectly and in the twinkling of an eye, but you would choose to do through me albeit slowly and blunderingly." He brought the most precious student into my life I ever met - the child changed my life.

I'll pray a similar prayer for you, Jordan, beginning TODAY.

  4. Thank you very much, i have been praying about it. But i just don't understand why this thought of trying to go and pursue it and play basketball would of even came to my mind if he didnt want me to do it. But thank you so much for your encouraging words, i appreciate it a lot. Thank you!
