I started baby sitting for someone my mom works with. She has four kids. Ages 5, 2, (going on three) 2, and 1. I also babysit for someone my dad works with and they have three kids. Ages 12, 9, and 4. Ever since we started talking about language and communication development, I've become more aware of the language development in the younger kids I babysit. I already knew they were just developing language, but I began to notice where they are in their development and the errors they have in syntax, semantics, or pragmatics. I thought that I would share that with you.

  1. I do think it is amazing how much more aware of language we become after being exposed to these concepts!!

  2. I've become more aware as well. At my preschool I've become alot more active in working with the language development of the children. It's interesting to me how I am only now aware of the children that are more behind and need more one on one interaction.

  3. I feel the same way! I babysit a 3 year old with a speech problem and when she talks to me I think in my head how many errors she is making in her syntax, pragmatics, and semantics!

  4. I also have had that same experience with babysitting lately. I nanny for a 1 and 5 year old. And I am just so much more aware now of how they are developing their language. I get to witness them develop their pragmatics and semantics and syntax. Its cool to see what you learn in class applied to the real world!
