Field Trip

I had fun on the field trip tonight. :) I never realized how many different tools there are for teachers who work with students with special needs. My favorite was the computer with the camera :) That is a great idea! I also never realized how you can use common household items to make everyday tasks simpler for people with special needs. And I love how instead of buying expensive tools, the center helps to show teachers and parents how to make some items out of cheaper objects. It's great and I had a great time. I hope everyone else did as well!

  1. I really enjoyed the field trip and it was such a valuable experience! The devices and techonology that are created for those with disabilities is amazing. I was shocked and in amazement of all there is out there for those with disabilities. I am fortunate to have been able to see this with my own eyes and work with the devices. I really think that all the information I learned and gained from the experience will greatly help me out in the future as a special educator. One device that was astonshing was the computer that enable a child to communicate all his wants, needs, and desires. I was shocked at the price 18,000!! WOW, thats crazy. The fact that the center takes everyday items and uses them for those with disabilites and almost half the cost is so neat. I also loved the fact that families, school, and anyone can rent out those items for 30 days. I loved the toys and how they are able to transform them. This was a truly rewarding experience.

  2. I agree that the field trip was an awesome experience. I can't get over how amazing it is that they do these things for people. I just wish centers such as these were more frequent through the US. I feel they deserve a great deal of respect for all that they do and they need to know how appreciated their work is. The only question I had was what about the blind and deaf. It seemed as though there were not many tools there that they could use and I was just wandering if they had more or if tools like these were even available without a greater technology. Other than that, I felt it was a very heart warming experience and am very glad to see that there are people out there that care so much and actually put it into action.

  3. I feel like the trip motivated me to always be looking and researching for new opportunities and tools for the future. I feel like a little extra work put into the research to find out what is available for my students will pay off big when I'm actually in the classroom.
