BTC
Today me and Ryan headed to Lexington and went to the BTC and did some fun stuff together. WE first listened to books and made sure all words were in the audio as in the book, made sure they didn't leave a word out. THen we scanned pages of books, which actually took forever. And one of the pages i scanned will always have my hand in it, because she said she would either not bother it or cut it out... But overall it was a good volunteer experience.

That sounds like fun! I should have made time to go over there because I know that I would have enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteAmanda and I went last Friday. We picked up some books to read and then came up with questions about those books. We took them back today. I really like talking with Debbie. She is such a hoot. She enjoys her work and it shows.
ReplyDeleteYeah she is super easy to talk to!! And super funny!
ReplyDeleteJordan, did you read any interesting books while you were there that really piqued your interest?
ReplyDeleteActually, if you share your book experience I trust you will share a PG version. I appreciated the respectful yet candid adult version you shared at dinner. I was appreciative of your honest and again - RESPECTFUL manner in which you shared the retelling of the book at the restaurant.
ReplyDeleteYou're right . . . for retelling on the blog use your school teacher voice and tell it as if someone's child may be sitting on their knee reading along with them and they may not want them to read all of the details or language.
I appreciate your maturity, sensitivity and PRAGMATIC PROFICIENCY!
Haha i just noticed i put the permission thing on the wrong post haha... But the book was called " MY Mother is having a Baby" It was written in way that it seemed as the little girl had wrote it, and it started off in September and the mother was not showing but had a baby inside of her. Then as I read on through the months, their was a break in the book and the girl switched topics, and started asking how the baby got inside her mother. The mother explained the difference between a Man's and Women's body and talked about the process, like how parents are in love and get in the bed and "KISS and CUDDLE" then it showed how a man's sperm goes inside the uterus and then one sperm cell goes inside the egg and thats how a baby is formed. I hope i kept it PG haha...
ReplyDeleteExcellent. You will make a terrific husband and father. Glad you're in no rush to pursue that though - another interesting little known fact we learned last night!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the students are sorry they missed the restaurant version of the retelling of the book, however!
AWWWW thank you very much Mrs. White that means a lot... And i hope i do make a good father and husband.
ReplyDeleteThe story about the book was hilarious! I am so glad you all got to experience adapting that book!
ReplyDeleteI wen't to BTC last week. I love going there, I have been several times before. Their fun to be around and full of life. I am very inspired by them, I hope I will be able to go there more this summer!
ReplyDeleteI'm only a FB, text, page, VP, call, coffee away!
ReplyDeleteOone question, since we went to the BTC center will you but the bonus points on the test and show on BB or will u just put it in your grade book?
ReplyDeleteBlackboard IS my gradebook. I will add the 20 bonus points to your tests FIRST. If you have points left over after I add them to the first three tests I have a spreadsheet where I am keeping track of the points and will add to the Final test.
ReplyDeleteIf someone who volunteered got a 46, 42 and a 48 then they only needed 14 of their 20 bonus points. they have 6 remaining points for their Final. If they get a perfect 50 on their Final then they have 6 points I will add to the Observation or Reading Response grade.
Clear as mud?
This is the real reason I would have preferred to have WAITED until the END OF THE SEMESTER to add bonus points - so I would have to track the bonus points in multiple places. I could keep the volunteer sheets, once all grades are in then just add bonus points. However, everyone is asking and wanting to see see where the bonus points put them grade wise.
Is it . . . how hard do I have to study . . . or what do I have to get to get a ____...
For some of you, I am SURE :), it is how much can I LEARN so I will REALLY understand the material so I will better understand how to be the best teacher I can be :)
thats so funny that your hand is in the page Jordan....some kid is going to be looking at your hand during story time lol
ReplyDeleteI really wished i had some time this past month to go volunteer but i have been way to busy with school! I can not wait to go and volunteer soon thought i know it will be fun!
