I know this probably sounds stupid and I'm probably the only one who doesn't get this, but can anyone clarify what the second half of question 8 is asking? I get the first part. The part that I don't really understand is "Describe a way a teacher can model this act and have children use it naturally in the classroom." I'm not asking for answers, just a different way of asking the question. Thanks everyone!!

The first thing you will need to do is to choose one of the three speech acts. We discussed these in class. They are in the Power Point on Blackboard and are in your text. Once you have chosen that specific speech act . . .
ReplyDeleteDESCRIBE...explain, tell what it looks like...
for a teacher to model or show how to use this specific speech act.
Example:
IF the question was about using pragmatic skills INSTEAD OF speech acts and I chose the skill of "polite markers"
Describe a way a teacher can model this skill and have children use it naturally in the classroom.
The teacher will explain to the children that to be polite and respectful we will always use the phrases, "Thank You, You're Welcome and Please." Each time the teacher asks children to do something she will use the phrases. She will in a positive way remind children to use the words as she is talking with them or over hears them talking with one another.
When asking children to pass out papers, to get out their books, to turn to a page, to come to the board, to line up to transition to another area, etc. The teacher will make these phrases a natural part of her language as she interacts with students and encourage them to use these words as they communicate with her.
Don't worry, I was a bit confused myself. Thank you for explaining it and giving an example!
