Relevation

As I sit here and work on my language project, I am realizing that I have very poor language and communication skills. I always thought that teachers were supposed to provide proper tools to have well educated students with communication skills to match. Thanks to Mrs. White, my eyes have been opened and I realize that these skills are either rusty or nonexistant for me. I'm slowly struggling through the language project, and I just hope that it is up to par!

  1. Kate, I appreciate you sharing your insights. This course has helped ME work on my language and communication skills. You know I take my role seriously as an educator. You know I accept my role in the success and failure of student learning. I do think I have a role and responsibility in students' learning - obviously.

Your comments make me wonder . . . what do students see as THEIR responsibility in developing their language and communication skills? How can we as educators lead, guide, inspire students to develop better grammar and vocabulary? I often hear students communicate their opinions and thoughts in class very eloquently and articulately. At other times I hear the most horrific grammar come out of college students' mouths. "I done went..." "I don't got no..."

I watched an interesting segment on CNN today about those who succeed aren't often those who are the brightest or most intelligent. It is the people who are willing to work the hardest. It comes down to EFFORT.

What are students willing to do throughout the semester to put forth effort to learn or improve in areas where they feel they struggle?
